Astrill Setup Manual:How to configure L2TP/IPSEC with Windows built-in client on Windows 8

Attention! L2TP/IPSEC protocol won't be supported by Astrill after 1st January, 2021.


STEP 1

Right click on Network Access from system tray and click Open Network and Sharing Center.

STEP 2

Click Set up a new connection or network.

STEP 3

Select Connect to a workplace and click Next.

STEP 4

Click Use my Internet connection (VPN).

STEP 5

Enter a server address in the Internet address field and VPN description 'Astrill L2TP VPN - LA1' in Destination name field and click Create.

For server addresses list, please go to the Server List link in the members area. Servers List

STEP 6

Right click on the VPN connection name and select View connection properties.

STEP 7

Under the Security tab select the Type of VPN as Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPsec (L2TP/IPsec).

Click Allow these protocols and select Microsoft CHAP Version 2.

Finally click Advanced settings.

STEP 8

On the Advanced Properties select Use preshared key for authentication and enter way2stars as the pre-shared key and click OK.

STEP 9

On the Networking tab, uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks and click OK.

STEP 10

Click Connect then type your VPN Connection name and enter your server credentials (username & password). Hit OK.

STEP 11

Wait for the Connected sign to appear.

STEP 12

Once connected you can go to https://www.astrill.com/what-is-my-ip to check on your new ip address.
